Cheap Fuel Along the German Autobahn: Choose an Autohof

Cheap Fuel in Germany

Autohof vs Raststätte: How to Save Money at the Pump

Fuel is expensive – and only getting pricier. Anyone travelling to or through Germany will notice this especially when refuelling at a Raststätte – a service station directly on the Autobahn. According to the ADAC (Germany’s equivalent of the ANWB), you’ll pay an average of €2.116 per litre of Euro 95 and €2.006 per litre of diesel there.¹

In the Netherlands, prices are lower: €1.902 for Euro 95 and €1.679 for diesel, according to CBS.² So is fuelling in Germany always more expensive? Not if you’re smart about it.

The trick: drive a few minutes off the Autobahn and fuel up at an Autohof – commercial petrol stations typically just off the motorway. They often have restaurants, showers, and great truck facilities. Prices there are up to €0.40 per litre lower than at the Raststätten.

At BergundBahn, we've created a map of all Autohöfe in Germany – so you always know where to fill up for less along your journey.
